Terms of Service
These terms are between you and Hassan Khalid, and cover your use of the Privacy Shield browser extension and this website.
Privacy Shield is free to start, and eye tracking is planned to become a one-time purchase later. Use it however you like on your own devices, don’t misuse it, and don’t treat it as a guarantee: it makes your screen harder for people nearby to read, but it is not a security product. It is provided as it is, and you can stop using it at any time.
1. Using the extension
By installing or using Privacy Shield you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install it, or remove it.
We give you a personal, non-exclusive licence to install and use the extension on devices you own or control, in line with these terms and with the terms of your browser and the Chrome Web Store. The extension works on your device. Details of how it handles information are in the privacy policy.
2. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for how you use the extension and for the content you view with it. In particular, you agree that you will not:
- copy, modify, resell or redistribute the extension or this website as your own;
- reverse engineer the extension except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- use the extension to break the law, or to hide activity you are required to disclose, for example from an employer or regulator who is entitled to see your screen;
- interfere with the extension, this website or the services they rely on.
Some employers, schools and public places limit camera use. It is up to you to follow those rules when you turn on eye tracking.
3. Paid features
Privacy Shield is free while we launch, and there are no subscriptions. We plan to make eye tracking a paid feature, charged as a single one-time purchase: that means the Look-away guard and the Spotlight when it follows your eyes. Overlay and the cursor-following Spotlight are not part of that and are intended to stay free.
Before any purchase is required, we will announce it in the changelog, in the extension and on this page, and describe exactly what is included. A purchase would be made through the provider shown at checkout, and the privacy policy will be updated first to cover any payment information that provider handles. These terms will also be updated first.
4. Intellectual property
The extension, its design, name, logo and this website belong to Hassan Khalid and are protected by copyright and other laws. These terms give you the right to use the extension, not to own it or to use our name and logo to suggest an endorsement.
The extension includes third-party open-source components, which stay under their own licences: the MediaPipe Face Landmarker by Google (Apache License 2.0) and the Archivo typeface (SIL Open Font License 1.1). Privacy Shield is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
5. Disclaimers
The extension is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will work on every website or browser.
Please understand what it is and is not. Privacy Shield reduces how much of your screen people nearby can read. It does not block screenshots, screen sharing or recording, or cameras pointed at your display, and it is not a substitute for locking your computer or protecting sensitive information. Webcam eye tracking is approximate by nature and may be wrong, drift or lose your face, so do not rely on it where a failure would cause harm.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits or confidential information, arising from your use of or inability to use the extension. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the extension in the twelve months before the claim, which is zero while it is free.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and your rights as a consumer where you live are not affected.
7. Ending these terms
You can stop at any time by removing the extension. We may change or discontinue the extension, or suspend your use of it if you breach these terms. We may also update these terms: we will change the date above and describe meaningful changes in the changelog. Continuing to use the extension after a change means you accept it. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as intellectual property, disclaimers and liability, survive the end of these terms.
